Family says Trump sent $25K promised after soldier's death

President Donald Trump speaks during a joint statement with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the Rose Garden of the White House

The $25,000 check President Donald Trump promised to the family of a fallen soldier was finally sent out, but some social media users pointed out that the check was signed on the same date the Washington Post published the article revealing Trump's unfulfilled promise.

Chris and Jessie Baldridge, whose son Dillon died in June in Afghanistan, spoke exclusively with ABC11 after the check was delivered via FedEx from President Trump's NY address to their home in Zebulon, North Carolina.

"I hope this will make things a bit easier, but nothing will ever replace your son, Dillon", Trump wrote. "He was an American Hero".

"[Trump] said, 'I'm going to write you a check out of my personal account for $25,000, ' and I was just floored", Baldridge told the Post.

In an interview given to ABC11 after he received the check, Baldridge said that he was "still speechless".

The couple plan to use the money to start a foundation honoring Dillon's legacy, she said.

WTVD reports the check was dated the same day the Post's story appeared.

At the time, White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters lambasted the Post for asking about the payment, saying it was "disgusting that the media is taking something that should be recognized as a generous and honest gesture, made privately by the president, and using it to advance the media's biased agenda".

Tesla's Shanghai plant may be first wholly-owned facility in China
Tesla has moved closer to being the first foreign automaker to have a manufacturing operation that is wholly owned in China . It was also previously reported in June that Tesla was looking at Shanghai and Guangdong for a plant to expand in China .

"It's disgusting that the media is taking something that should be recognized as a generous and honest gesture, made privately by the president, and using it to advance the media's biased agenda", she said.

Another White House official claims that getting the promised $25,000 personal check from Trump to the fallen soldier's family has been in the works since the promise was made.

Baldridge's story emerged as Trump launched a feud with Myeshia Johnson, the pregnant widow of Sgt.

But after weeks passed and the check never came, the Baldridges say they didn't raise the issue.

Nonetheless, the Balbridges are grateful and are now writing a thank you letter to the White House, letting the president know that they plan to start a nonprofit in their son's name. The Post, however, said that as of the report's publication, Trump had done neither.

Dillon, one of three soldiers killed in Afghanistan during Trump's presidency, was killed after an Afghan Army member fired on U.S. soldiers. "Our goal is to help as many fellow Americans as possible for the rest of our lives".

Months after promising the father of a fallen US service member a check for $25,000, President Donald Trump has made good on his word.
