Pakistani journalist Zeenat Shahzadi recovered after two years in captivity

Journalist Shahzadi recovered from border area

Zeenat Shahzadi, who disappeared in 2015 while working on the case of a missing Indian national in Pakistan, has been recovered by security forces, officials said on Friday.

He said some non-state actors and enemy agencies were behind Shehzadi's kidnapping and that she was recovered from their custody.

As yet no statement has been issued by the recovered journalist or her family.

The reporter was pursuing the case of Indian engineer Hamid Ansari, who was jailed in Peshawar on espionage charges. After obtaining a special power of attorney, she had been working relentlessly for his release till she disappeared in August 2015. The two had been in touch on daily basis before her kidnapping. Shahzadi was in contact with her mother and went out of the way to help her. Hamid was imprisoned for three years after Zeenat went missing.

Ansari, meanwhile, had gone missing in Pakistan in November, 2012.

Canada: NAFTA's Proposed Changes 'Troubling'
Negotiators extended discussions into next year amid an impasse over USA proposals that Mexico and Canada see as hardline. Trump again decried "massive trade deficits" with trading partners on October 17 when speaking at the White House.

Shahzadi had filed an application with the Supreme Court's Human Rights Cell two years ago on behalf of Hamid Ansari's mother Fauzia Ansari. Zeenat had travelled to Kohat and discovered that Ansari had been in police custody. Zeenat's family and the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan believe Pakistan's Special Forces are responsible, because she fearlessly pursued an explosive story the spy agencies didn't want told.

Fauzia told Pakistan newspaper that said she was delighted to know about Shahzadi's release. "She first obtained all the details about Hamid's case and confirmed that his intentions were not mala fide, though he did try to enter Pakistan illegally".

"Pakistan's intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has been known to target journalists. In addition to the missing persons' crisis, Pakistan ranks sixth in the Committee to Protect Journalists' list of the 20 deadliest countries for journalists in the world, and as the ninth worst country in the world for impunity for crimes against journalists", it said.

In March 2016, Zeenat Shahzadi's heart-broken brother Saddam also committed suicide at the abduction of her sister.
