Vermont unemployment rate falls again, now 2.9 percent

The unemployment rate was 2.5 percent in September

Wisconsin added 5,900 private sector jobs in September, but the state's unemployment rate continued an upward trend that started in July, according to data released by the Department of Workforce Development.

Pennsylvania's nonfarm jobs count was up 10,300 to a record high of 5,970,400 in September.

The state has added 27,100 private sector jobs during the first nine months of the year.

The U.S. preliminary unemployment rate of 4.2 percent in September was down slightly from 4.4 percent in August, and down from 4.9 percent a year earlier. Indiana's total labor force remains steady at 3.4 million, and the state's 64.5 percent labor force participation rate remains above the national rate of 63.1 percent.

That was down from 2.5 percent in August and 2.9 percent in September 2016.

Pennsylvania's civilian labor force was down 15,000 over the month to 6,414,000.

The biggest gains were made in Trade, Transportation and Utilities, and Leisure and Hospitality.

Jobless claims are also at lows not seen in a while.

Most of Colorado's metropolitan statistical areas had their unemployment rates unchanged from August to September.

September unemployment rate estimates for other states in the region were 2.7 percent in New Hampshire, 2.9 percent in Vermont, 3.9 percent in MA, 4.2 percent in Rhode Island and 4.6 percent in CT.
