Mueller probes Flynn's role in alleged plan to deliver cleric to Turkey

The cleric Fethullah Gulen was considered a political enemy to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

The Story:Former White House national security adviser Mike Flynn faces multiple allegations around his Russian Federation ties and his possible role in forcibly delivering a Muslim cleric from the U.S.to Turkey in exchange for millions of dollars.

Special prosecutor Robert Mueller is examining a meeting Flynn had with senior Turkish officials weeks after Donald Trump won the presidential race past year, NBC News and the Wall Street Journal reported.

Citing "people with knowledge of the FBI's inquiries", The Journal reported that Flynn and representatives of the Turkish government discussed the proposal - which one of those people told the newspaper allegedly involved flying Gulen on a private jet to a prison on the island of Imrali - during a meeting in mid-December at the 21 Club in NY.

Mueller is reviewing emails sent from Flynn Intel Group to Rohrabacher's congressional staff thanking them for the meeting, according to one of the sources, as part of his probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The focus of Mueller's investigation is to examine whether a discussion at 21 Club in NY leading to a deal to transport the cleric to Turkey would have resulted in Flynn receiving millions of dollars in secret payments, and whether Flynn was, in fact, part of that discussion.

Reports by NBC and the Wall Street Journal say that in January 2017, US Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating claims that Flynn met senior Turkish officials before President Trump's inauguration and was offered some 15 million dollars to deliver Gulen back to Turkey.

The vote sets ASLEF apart from the other big rail union, the RMT, whose members are on strike today over driver-only operation. Britain has faced its worst travel chaos in decades as rail staff staged a walk-out in protest over driver-only trains.

The Journal said it is not clear how far the proposal went and that there was no sign that any payments were made.

The people who described the alleged proposal said they didn't attend the December meeting and didn't have direct knowledge from Mr. Flynn or his associates about its purported details. The discussions allegedly involved the possibility of transporting Mr. Gulen on a private jet to the Turkish prison island of Imrali, according to one of the people who has spoken to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

If Mueller and his team suspect Flynn tried to take official actions to benefit a foreign government, then anyone who tried to impede the investigation into Flynn's alleged misconduct might also face accusations of wrongdoing. Zarrab is in prison in the United States on federal charges that he helped Iran skirt USA sanctions, NBC said.

It is unclear how Flynn, as national security adviser, could have successfully carried out either alleged request. In addition to founding and working for Flynn Intel Group, he joined his father on a trip to Moscow in December 2015 during which Flynn was paid $34,000 to speak at an event celebrating the state-sponsored news agency RT, NBC News reported.

As a rule, they said, they do not comment on news reports involving their client.
