Kulbhushan Jadhav's Wife, Mother To Meet Him Today In Pakistan

India and Iran maintain that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Indian Navy.

Jadhav, in the video that was apparently shot before he got to meet his kin, also said that he had requested to meet his family members and that he was grateful to the Pakistan Government for letting that happen.

Having lost her brother four years back in Pakistan, Kaur said she could fully understand what Jadhav's family must be going through at this hour.

"As Jadhav's wife and mother were leaving, they thanked Pakistan, the FO, me, my team", Dr Faisal said.

India feels today's meeting between Kulbhushan Jadhav and his family was as much an image-building exercise as a tacit message from Pakistan to New Delhi, and so represents a "major climbdown".

The 40-minute meeting, which took place after many representations, at the heavily guarded Foreign Affairs Ministry building came after the International Court of Justice asked Pakistan in May to stay his execution.

Pakistan claims its security forces arrested Jadhav alias Hussein Mubarak Patel from its restive Balochistan province on March 3 a year ago after he reportedly entered from Iran.

Four killed as bus crashes into underground passageway in Moscow
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin ordered all city buses to be checked in the aftermath of the crash, Russian news agencies reported. The emergencies ministry said helicopters had been dispatched to the scene to help evacuate the victims.

Jadhav gave details of his meetings with his contacts in Pakistan and exposed the network which he was handling, according to his confessional statement, obtained by The Associated Press. The communication between them was through an inter-com device. It was not known where he had been kept before being transported to the foreign ministry. He made no reference to "consular access".

Earlier today, Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif told a Pakistani media channel that Pakistan has granted India consular access to Jadhav since an Indian diplomat will be accompanying the prisoner's wife and mother. He watched images of Jadhav's mother Avantika and wife Chetna sitting across a glass screen flicker on the TV set at his home. "We honour our commitments", spokesman Faisal earlier tweeted along with a picture of the visitors.

The FO spokesperson said Pakistan would have preferred if Jadhav's wife and mother had spoken to Pakistani media.

The two women looked visibly anxious and stressed before and after meeting Jadhav, and later returned to India by plane.

India's foreign affairs office has not responded to a request for comment on the meeting. "It should be categorically registered", he added.

Jadhav, 47, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism in April, following which India moved the ICJ in May.

On April 10, 2017, Pakistan sentenced the RAW agent to death for carrying out espionage and sabotage activities in Balochistan and Karachi.
