Twitter suspends accounts of far-right British group retweeted by Trump

Britain First's Jayda Fransen, whose anti-Muslim tweets were recently retweeted by President Trump, had her account suspended Monday.

"We hope our approach and upcoming changes, as well as our collaboration with the Trust and Safety Council, show how seriously we are rethinking our rules and how quickly we're moving to update our policies and how we enforce them", Twitter said.

So far the purge seems to have targeted white nationalists and racist groups - with all the main accounts for Britain First suspended.

Britain First Leaders Jayda Fransen and Paul Golding have been suspended from Twitter along with the group's account under the social media company's revised rules on hate speech.

United Kingdom authorities arrested Golding and Fransen earlier this week over incendiary comments about Islam that they made over the summer in Northern Ireland, the BBC reports. In August, social media networks began removing white nationalists after hundreds gathered in Charlottesville, Virginia, and one of them was charged with murdering a 32-year-old woman by running her down in a vehicle.

Sharing of hateful imagery will be another area of focus for the new Twitter policy.

That means users may not use such imagery in live video or profile and header images.

They are very private, so it's not much of a surprise that they've kept quiet about the birth of their twins. Anna even appeared in the music video for Enrique's song 'Escape' .

The biggest updates on the platform include abusive behaviour, self-harm, spam and related behaviours, graphic violence and adult content.

The move came a day before British MPs, who are part of the Home Affairs Committee, were set to discuss the role social media plays in influencing hate crime.

Tweets can still include hate imagery, but users will have to click through a warning to see them, the company said.

Twitter is also prohibiting users from abusing or threatening others through their profile information, including usernames.

Twitter will act against: Visibility of hateful and abusive content in headers or profile images, inability to contain violent threats and repeated violations of it will lead to an indefinite suspension of their account.

"Any tool that enables censorship online can be used against potentially everyone - regardless of ideology", Emma Llansó, the director of the Free Expression Project at the Center for Democracy and Technology, said after several far-right groups were removed from social media sites this summer.

"In our efforts to be more aggressive here, we may make some mistakes and are working on a robust appeals process", Twitter wrote in its blog post. "We'll evaluate and iterate on these changes in the coming days and weeks, and will keep you posted on progress along the way".
