Vince McMahon files five trademarks for XFL

There had already been plenty of smoke around McMahon wanting to reboot the XFL, which crashed and burned after one season in 2001.

The WWE publicly disclosed to the Securities and Exchange Commission that McMahon has sold almost $100 million worth of stock, in order to "primarily to fund a separate entity from the Company, Alpha Entertainment LLC, which Mr. McMahon established to explore investment opportunities across the sports and entertainment landscapes, including professional football".

Rumors have surfaced that WWE boss Vince McMahon is looking to revive the XFL, and there are now receipts indicating he's well on his way.

McMahon recently filed five trademarks for the XFL, and according to Darren Rovell of ESPN, the trademarks were filed on December 16.

President Donald Trump is a longtime McMahon family friend and many people are speculating that the new organization would have the full backing of Trump, especially given his less than supportive tweets aimed at the National Football League the past few months.

The trademarks, which were "abandoned" between 2002 and 2005, also cover merchandise related to a potential league.

Never liking to be too far behind the curtains, McMahon regularly got himself involved in storylines for the show, and was never shy to hop into the ring when necessary.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. WWE did not deny the possible return of the XFL.

Filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission revealed McMahon sold 3.34m shares in WWE which will be used to fund a separate company - Alpha Entertainment - that is exploring "investment opportunities across the sports and entertainment landscapes, including professional football".

However, as you can still see in the statement above, Vince McMahon still has 82.8% of the company's total voting power, meaning he still has a big say in the running of the WWE.
