Iran regime opponents rally across Europe

Protesters gather in Tehran as unrest spreads across Iran

Finally, Trump must resist the temptation to seize on the protests in Iran as an excuse for further undermining the nuclear agreement. The local governor said the protesters were armed. "Public discontent is increasing. people are losing their faith in the establishment system", a third Iranian official said.

The protests began December 28 in Mashhad, Iran's second-largest city and a bastion for hard-liners, initially focusing on Iran's flagging economy and rising food prices.

The Iranian people were chanting "hardliners, moderates, the game is now over."In a nutshell, due to these reasons, the character of recent protests in Iran was unique and distinct in comparison to other uprisings that occurred in the four-decade history of the Islamic Republic". Vice-President Mike Pence said on Wednesday the United States wants an agreement lasting longer.

"We warn the USA against attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran", Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told the state news agency Tass.

Ms Haley continued: "The freedoms that are enshrined in the United Nations charter are under attack in Iran".

Washington was accused of intervening "in a grotesque way in Iran's internal affairs" amid riots across the country that have claimed 21 lives and led to hundreds of arrests.

That doesn't mean US politicians can't sympathize with the concerns of young, disaffected people in Iran or that the USA can't penalize Iran when it believes that country has misbehaved.

Even a group of reformist and moderate MPs accused the USA of trying to take advantage of the situation.

Activists have shared information about protests on social media.

A Game of Chicken With Pakistan
President Donald Trump and said Islamabad could not be held responsible for the "collective failure" in Afghanistan . Pakistan has criticized and noted with "deep disappointment" charges contained in a New Year tweet by U.S.

In Tehran, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the protests are bringing attention to economic problems in the nation and that leaders should "should listen to this voice and turn it into an opportunity". But the protests might soon be quelled, dissolve into competing camps led by rival leaders, or be hijacked by hostile anti-Western forces, as numerous Arab Spring revolts were hijacked.

Protests broke out in several towns and cities on the fourth night of demonstrations against economic problems.

Demonstrators initially focused on Iran's flagging economy.

Some demonstrators have urged the ouster of Rouhani and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. Iran has suffered in the past from foreign interference, so his words will strike a chord among some - and could also signal a much tougher response from the security forces.

Some conservatives have pushed for a hardline approach, even though bloodshed could fuel more protests in the largest wave of demonstrations since nationwide unrest in 2009. It is not at the moment, so that will make it harder for the protests to be sustained, and they may run out of steam. This will more likely cause more people to become disaffected with the regime. A gunshot and muzzle flash could be seen in the footage taken in Isfahan province, where there have been days of protests.

They are the largest since the disputed 2009 presidential election.

Pro-regime demonstrations denouncing the 2009 Green Movement leaders also may have provoked a political backlash.

The protesters have little chance of toppling the clerical leaders, who appear to be retaining control of the military, police and security forces and have no compunction about using them, according to one US official following the developments.
