Spain manufacturing sector posts more solid growth in December

Growth in Australia's manufacturing sector moderated slightly in December, but continued its unbroken run of either expanding or stable conditions that began in October 2016.

The official Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) released on Sunday dipped to 51.6 in December, down from 51.8 in November and in line with forecasts from economists in a Reuters poll.

This is for the fifth consecutive month that the index has come in above 50-point mark that separates expansion from contraction.

The headline Nikkei Malaysia (PMI) ― a composite single-figure indicator of manufacturing performance ― fell from 52.0 in November to 49.9 in December, signalling a broad stagnation in the goods-producing economy following the strongest growth in over three and-a-half years in the previous month, the report noted.

The manufacturing sector employed less people as the sub-index of employment dropped 0.3 percentage points month on month to 48.5 in December.

The World Bank last month raised its projection for China's gross domestic product (GDP) a year ago to 6.8%, up from its October estimate of 6.7%, citing support from strong exports and robust domestic household consumption.

Analysts also expect that manufacturing growth will also be affected in the coming months by restrictions on factory production in some areas and especially in heavy industries to reduce pollution.

Raiders fire head coach Jack Del Rio after disappointing 6-10 finish
They went just 2-6 on the road, unable to capitalize on a season in which they won their first two contests. The Raiders followed that up with one of the most disappointing seasons in the NFL.

Overall business confidence rose and reached an eight-month high.

Ireland's economy is nearly certain to have been the strongest performer in Europe for the fourth straight year, while unemployment has been on a steady downtrend since 2011.

Finally, optimism amongst panelists remained elevated during December.

Boosted by hefty government infrastructure spending, a resilient property market and unexpected strength in exports, China's manufacturing and industrial firms have been a major driver behind solid economic growth this year, with their strong appetite for raw materials boosting global commodity prices.

New orders placed at Indian manufacturers rose for the second month in succession during December.

"A lingering concern is that supply-side constraints pose a risk to the sector's ability to kick on", Smith said, adding that huge delivery delays would inevitably be borne out by sustained upward pressure on input costs.
