Trump On Kushner's Clearance: Jared's 'Outstanding,' But It's Up To John Kelly

White House: Role of Kushner unaffected by security clearance

"It's a broken system and it shouldn't take this long", said Trump during a joint news conference at the White House with visiting Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. "I won't make that call".

He claimed that some of the staff members still waiting for a permanent clearance are "people with not a problem in the world", and said Kelly will decide what to do about Kushner's interim clearance.

Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Mazie Hirono (D-HI) asked the inspector general for the intelligence community to investigate the Trump administration's security clearance procedures.

White House security clearances were thrust front-and-center this month following the departure of Trump's former staff secretary Rob Porter.

That is what President Donald Trump told reporters Friday, declaring that his daughter's husband, Jared Kushner, had "been treated very unfairly".

"He works for nothing". But Trump said Friday that he would leave that decision to Kelly. But he gets zero.

"But the hardest deal to make of any kind is between the Israelis and Palestinians", Trump said.

Kushner, who has quietly updated his personal financial disclosure with foreign contacts and financial assets several times since he started working in the West Wing, has worked under an interim clearance for more than a year.

Adam Vinatieri signs one-year deal with Indianapolis Colts
The points record is one Vinatieri has been well aware of. "I guess I'll take these one year at a time and see where it ends up". And with a new head coach and hopefully getting Andrew Luck back to win some games, Vinatieri could go out as a victor too.

The day before Rosenstein's call to McGahn, The Washington Post reported that Kushner was among dozens of White House personnel who were relying on interim clearances while their FBI background investigations were pending. "General Kelly respects Jared a lot".

Kushner's attorney, Abbe Lowell, also declined to elaborate when pressed by CNN, saying only via a statement that the new policy "will not affect Mr. Kushner's ability to continue to do the very important work he has been assigned by the President". Much, but not all, of Kushner's work on the two issues singled out by Kelly are handled at those lower levels, the official said.

Kelly set a policy discontinuing high-level "interim" clearances for White House employees whose applications have been pending since at least June.

"So the more direct question is will Trump throw his son-in-law under the bus, and then the corollary to that is will his son-in-law throw his father-in-law under the bus?"

The Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein called the White House earlier this month to inform general counsel Donald McGahn that new, "significant information" related to Kushner needed further investigation.

"Everyone in the White House is grateful for these valuable contributions to furthering the President's agenda", Kelly said.

"It seems to me that he should have restricted access to highly classified material until the resolution of those issues", Bauer said.
