Harvey Weinstein 'Casting Couch' Statue Pops Up in Hollywood

Ahead of the 90 Academy Awards on Sunday, a Harvey Weinstein statue entitled "Casting Couch" has appeared on Hollywood Boulevard.

Washington D.C. [U.S.], March 3: Days before the 90th Academy Awards ceremony, a silk robe-swaddled golden statue of Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, holding an Oscar and sitting on a golden chaise couch was erected on Thursday. "Hopefully now in the light of recent allegations, against many leading figures in Hollywood the industry will clean up it's act". The placement of the figure is close to the Dolby Theatre, where the Academy Awards takes place. "There's so much about Hollywood that's great and celebrated in the Oscars" said Plastic Jesus, one of the Los Angeles-based street artists responsible for the statue, "but there's also this underbelly of darkness within the industry that we often sweep under the carpet or ignore".

"Casting Couch" follows conservative street artist Sabo's contributions earlier in the week: three billboards saying, "And the Oscar for biggest pedophile goes to..."; "We all knew and still no arrests" and "Name names on stage or shut the hell up!"

"Harvey Weinstein became an icon in the entertainment industry", Plastic Jesus wrote on Instagram.

According to the artists, the Weinstein sculpture took nearly two months to be crafted.

The artist known as Plastic Jesus placed his installation next to Elvis Presley's star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame on Thursday. "His power and influence was nearly without compare", he wrote. However, this wouldn't be the first time Weinstein was turned into a sculpture. Unlike the bathrobe-clad statue, it was created with the intention to be burned by fire.

Some of those dark corners include allegations of sexual misconduct in Tinseltown, which served as the catalyst for the #MeToo movement.
