One Clinton police officer killed, two others hurt in shooting

911 call before deadly Missouri police shooting came from a different address, police say

The patrol tweeted Wednesday morning identifying the suspect as James E Waters, 37, from Clinton.

Morton, a twice-deployed veteran who joined the Army National Guard in 2005, took a temporary break from full-time policing past year to take a job with Veterans Affairs in the Kansas City area, although he remained a reserve officer in Clinton.

Morton's death comes after police officer Gary Michael was fatally shot in Missouri on August 6, 2017. He pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder last month.

Henry County Prosecutor Richard Shields said it was too early to tell if the drug charges are directly connected to the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Clinton police officer Christopher Ryan Morton and the wounding of two others.

Lowe also mentioned that the reason for the police officers entering the home in an attempt to apprehend the suspect is still unknown. #ClintonPD, ' the patrol added.

"It's hard to put into words what you go through when you have an officer killed in a line of duty", Lowe said.

Federal Bureau of Investigation involved in NC police officer beating a black man
The FBI is investigating a North Carolina police officer for the bloody beating of a black man on foot he accused of jaywalking. The investigation also found that Hickman had engaged in "rude and discourteous behavior" on at least four other occasions.

Authorities say a man shot and killed a police officer and wounded two others at a home in Missouri.

It started with a 911 call, punctuated by two women's screams.

Lowe said Wednesday that further investigation traced the phone number from the 911 call to a Windsor, Missouri, address - not the Clinton home that police were sent to. The other two injured officers were transported to a hospital for treatment for gunshot wounds. That's when the Missouri Highway Patrol arrived to help. It is unclear if the shooter took their own life or they were killed when officers shot back. A woman who was at the home was taken into custody. "Certainly when Officer Michael was killed on August 6 of past year it was just devastating to our community, and these things as we've said then and I'll say it again, they just don't happen in small towns like ours". The other is being treated for what were described as minor injuries.

Officer: "Morton, can you make it out a window?"

Morton was an Army veteran who had been deployed twice, serving as a bridge crew member and radio communications manager in Afghanistan. When police responded to the scene they found the suspect had barricaded himself inside the residence in the small town of Clinton, about 75 miles southeast of Kansas City.

According to a probable cause statement, Waters ran away from police after following a woman to her home and shot a gun into the air. The Kansas City Royals honored him for his service in 2014. "Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers".
