$2.5 bn arms deal: 'I am innocent,' Zuma tells cheering crowd

South Africa: Jacob Zuma due in court to face corruption charges

Former South African president Jacob Zuma appears at the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban, South Africa on Friday.

The case at the Durban courthouse was adjourned until June 8 on the agreement of both parties to enable Zuma's defense team to prepare their documents for the challenge.

His financial adviser, Schabir Shaikh, was found guilty of trying to solicit bribes on his behalf from a French arms firm and was jailed in 2005.

The corruption allegations were previously filed against Zuma but were dropped prior to his presidential run in 2009.

Former president Jacob Zuma has used Friday's address to his supporters, to proclaim innocence, to indirectly attack the African National Congress (ANC) and to express his gratitude towards the party's members and religious organisations for supporting him as he faces what he describes as political charges. At the hearing, Judge Themba Sishi said Zuma was free "on warning".

Mr Zuma waved to crowds of supporters and reporters as he mounted the steps of the High Court. And now Mr Abrahams is leading the campaign to have Mr Zuma tried for the arms deal.

Zuma could face several years in prison.

Patriots trade receiver Brandin Cooks to Rams for first-round pick
While he wasn't always an efficient deep threat, Cooks helped to stretch the field with a speed element the team otherwise lacked. But it wasn't until a chance meeting between Belichick and Rams head coach Sean McVay that a deal started to materialize.

His supporters descended on the city to rally for him, while his critics think court action is long overdue.

JACOB ZUMA, the former president of South Africa, has been charged with corruption. But the deal effectively gives Zuma unlimited access to legal representation and raises the possibility that his case will be tied up in the courts for years. "I can't believe all the lies about me".

Despite that, Zuma still has strong support among the South African masses with the reports of thousands to attend a pro-Zuma march on Friday.

"Radical Economic Transformation agenda is under attack inside the ANC and him being as a symbolic representative of the agenda is being attacked through the judiciary", he said. As was the case the previous evening, Zuma supporters had chosen to defy the directive from ANC leadership forbidding the wearing of party regalia to express solidarity with the former president.

He said the case had been reinstated for political reasons.

His trial is likely to be a lengthy one, with a battle brewing over whether the state should keep paying Mr Zuma's legal bills.
