Backpage.com shutdown by Federal Bureau of Investigation, seized by feds

The FBI has seized and shut down classified advertising website Backpage.com for being an alleged facilitator of sex trafficking: according to the DOJ, the site has earned $500 million from prostitution since its inception. Authorities in California also added that 90 percent of the site's income was derived from so-called "adult ads".

Backpage.com is an adult classifieds website that has received a reputation, whether deserved or unfounded, as a hotbed for sex workers and clients to connect.

A Phoenix FBI official said that there was "law enforcement activity" at the Sedona, Arizona home of Michael Lacey, one of the founders of Backpage, but referred further inquiries to the Justice Department. In a statement, Myles said, "Shutting down the largest online United States marketplace for sex trafficking will dramatically reduce the profitability of forcing people into the commercial sex trade, at least in the short term".

A report from a Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations chaired by Portman found that Backpage.com knew that sex traffickers and pimps were using its services to promote child prostitution, and its claim to be a mere web host for ads was "fiction".

Mortimer is now alleged to have inseminated Ashby with his own sperm, without the couple's knowledge or consent. But, apparently, for about three months, the breeding specialist fertilized Ashby's ova with his own sperm.

Backpage has said such ads are constitutionally protected free speech. The notice states that the Justice Department planned to provide more information at 6PM EST today, but no formal press release or statements have been published. "In other words, they would make the money, make the profit, knowing that they were selling an underage girl online".

Backpage has denied knowingly facilitating sex trafficking and has noted that it cooperates with requests from law enforcement to help track down advertisers and victims. But the site has faced a barrage of other legal actions from various entities who accused it of aiding and abetting illegal sexual conduct.

On Friday night, Dart told ABC7 I-Team that he was "very ecstatic, thinking that over the years, a website that involved sex trafficking, child trafficking, and prostitution had been closed". The bill passed the Senate in an overwhelming 97-2 vote this week and will now head to President Trump's desk for him to sign into law.

Federal investigators have seized a popular linear sex market.
