Orban nearly certain of fourth term as Hungary votes

Voters wait in long lines as Hungary chooses next government

"Migration is like rust that slowly but surely would consume Hungary", Mr Orban said at his final rally on Friday.

Winning another two-thirds majority would give Orban the chance to boost a new class of politically-connected oligarchs, tighten his grip on institutions such as the courts, and strengthen resistance against countries like France and Germany that are seeking to deepen European Union integration.

Orbán has leaned farther to the right in recent years, becoming one of Europe's most prominent populist voices. She said young people are rejecting the authoritarian government and her 2 daughters have left Hungary.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban's Fidesz party is expected to win the majority of the 199 parliamentary seats, with Vona's Jobbik and a left-wing alliance of the Socialist Party and the Dialogue party led by Gergely Karacsony considered the leading challengers. Such an outcome would allow Orbán to pursue radical change, perhaps tightening his grip Hungary in the same vein as Poland.

"It's not enough to be ahead in the polls, we have to come first on voting day too", he said, recalling his party's loss in a 2002 election, at the end of his first term as prime minister, despite having been considered the favourites beforehand.

But as Chairman of the Party, Vona has gradually brought Jobbik into the mainstream in the hope of widening its political base.

Hungarian election officials say voter turnout in the country's parliamentary election 90 minutes before polls close has already exceeded the total turnout for the 2014 elections.

"We are convinced that high turnout definitely reflects. that people want a change in government", Socialist spokeswoman Bernadett Budai was quoted as saying by national news agency MTI.

Oil steady as US-China trade tensions ease
USA oil inventories shrank the most since January, according to government data yesterday, in contrast to a forecast expansion. The decline in U.S. stockpiles has boosted optimism that surging shale output may not thwart Opec's efforts to drain a glut.

Gabor Vona of the nationalist Jobbik party urged his supporters not to become complacent.

"From here I will go and take part in mobilizing voters.

Safety is first", said Julia Scharle, 27, holding her child outside the voting district where Orban cast his vote.

Orban is expected to continue his economic policies, with income tax cuts and incentives to boost growth, analysts have said.

Orban, who seeking his third consecutive term, and fourth overall since 1998, says he's voting early so he could keep campaigning until polling stations close Sunday evening.

He says "the European Union is not in Brussels. The EU is in Berlin, in Budapest, in Prague and in Bucharest".

Orban told reporters after casting his ballot that he is fighting for the future of his beloved country.

But he's unlikely to repeat the landslide wins of the past two elections as a resurgent - if still divided - opposition has sought to capitalize on widespread claims of cronyism and intimidation.
