'Be Cool!': Trump Offers Words Of Wisdom On Trade Talks With China

US authorities have banned firms from selling parts to China's ZTE for seven yearsMore

Somewhat bizarrely, Trump cited a loss of jobs in China as a motivating factor.

The US accused ZTE of misleading American regulators after it settled charges of violating sanctions against North Korea and Iran.

"The extent of the impact of the Commerce Department ban on U.S. suppliers was noted by the ZTE official, who was not authorized to speak publicly, as Chinese and USA government officials discuss a Washington visit next week by China's top economic [envoy Liu He for the second round of trade talks]".

The news came less than a month after the US Commerce Department banned ZTE from buying US-made components, such as semiconductors, for seven years, effectively wrecking its supply chain. The punishment resulted in ZTE suspending all major operations, according to a May 10 statement. US companies are banned from exporting goods to ZTE, making it hard for the phonemaker to manufacture new products or update older ones.

The US imposed the penalty after discovering that Shenzhen-based ZTE, which had paid a $1.2 billion fine in the case, had failed to discipline employees involved and paid them bonuses instead.

While the U.S. and China have threatened each other with trade tariffs, Trump has insisted that relations between Washington and Beijing have never been better and he has been working closely with Xi in efforts to persuade North Korea to abandon its nuclear program.

There has been an intense rivalry for supremacy in key technology fields such as artificial intelligence and 5G, the next-generation wireless systems in the works.

Then they've had to wait another seven years for Jets 2.0 to be sculpted into a championship-calibre outfit. They're a threat on the powerplay, on the rush, and from the blue-line, and on the cycle down low.

The conciliatory move quickly came under fire, with critics pointing out the administration was acting to rescue a firm that United States intelligence officials considered an espionage threat.

"You should care more about our national security than Chinese jobs", he wrote on Twitter.

National security advisor "John Bolton threatened sanctions on North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies who continue to trade w Iran". Huawei is a global leader in networking equipment, and the government has previously blocked it from selling technology to some federal agencies.

Trump's willingness to aid ZTE comes after the two nations have spent parts of recent months trading tariff threats.

In another tweet, posted later Sunday afternoon, Trump said "China and the United States are working well together on trade", adding "be cool, it will all work out".
