North Korea has begun dismantling nuclear test site

North Korea says it will dismantle its Punggye-ri test site between May 23 and 25 in the presence of local and global media. I think what the prospect for North Korea is to become a normal nation, to behave and interact with the rest of the world the way South Korea does'.

"No president has ever put America in a position where the North Korean leadership thought that this was truly possible, that the Americans would actually do this, would lead to the place where America was no longer held at risk by the North Korean regime", he said.

The regime later said it would invite journalists from China, Russia, the United Kingdom and the US between May 23 and May 25 to observe the collapse and closing of test tunnels and other facilities.

This move came three days after North Korea released three Americans detained in the country for "anti-DPRK hostilities", at the suggestion of U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who visited Jong-un in North Korea on May 9 for the second time in a month. Last month, President Trump called the North's decision to suspend missile and nuclear tests "very good news". But the North's announcement Saturday did not mention anything about inviting experts to Punggy-ri, spawning speculation that the North may want to hide some information about its past nuclear tests.

"The Nuclear Weapon Institute and other concerned institutions are taking technical measures for dismantling the northern nuclear test ground ... in order to ensure transparency of discontinuance of the nuclear test", North Korean press agency KCNA said earlier this week. These refer to experiments involving a subcritical mass of nuclear materials that allow scientists to examine the performance and safety of weapons without triggering a nuclear chain reaction and explosion.

Monitor Says 42 Killed In Israeli Strikes In Syria This Week
Israel had already acknowledged launching more than 100 airstrikes in Syria since that country's civil war broke out in 2011. Israel however, which has always been concerned about Iranian influence in the Middle East welcomed Trump's decision.

North Korea invited foreign journalists from the U.S., China, Russia, U.K. and South Korea to attend the event. North Korea is desperately in need of energy support, electricity for their people they are there in great need of agricultural equipment and technology.

N Korea said it will "completely" destroy Punggye-ri test site, in a ceremony scheduled between May 23-25 in front of invited foreign media.

"It would, however, require North Korea to clear out the test tunnels and rebuild any infrastructure that might be removed or dig new tunnels at the site or elsewhere". "It will make it more hard for Kim Jong Un to deny inspections now that he has placed them on the table".

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a nuclear research and storage facility that already holds key components from Libya's nuclear weapons programme.

Pompeo was asked on Fox News Sunday whether the USA was in effect telling Kim he could stay in power if he met the US demands. Washington is demanding the verifiable dismantling of the North's nuclear weapons program.
