Capitol Police Arrest About 575 Protesters at Senate Office Building

Capitol Police push back media from filming protest arrests

About 100 people were arrested at the protest in the Senate building, but CNN reported that Capitol Police are expecting to arrest "a couple of hundred".

"There are 400,000 people who have signed up, people who are going to be wearing white at rallies across the country". Protesters will show up in U.S. cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Dallas, as well as in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

"As a woman and as a mother, I refuse to stay silent as parents on the border are separated from their kids", said Tamika Mallory, co-chair of the Women's March, who was one of those arrested.

"This country has finally been exposed to the brutality and inhumanity of immigration enforcement, " she said.

Last week, Trump penned an executive order to end family separations at the border due to harsh criticism. "We are rising up to demand an end to the criminalization of immigrants".

Hundreds of people across the country are scheduled to protest against the Trump administration's "zero-tolerance" policy in rallies organised by a coalition led by the National Domestic Workers' Alliance tomorrow.

The Families Belong Together event is billed by organizers as a nationwide day of action to protest the Trump administration's strict immigration policies and call for the reunification of families separated and detained as a result of those policies' implementation.

The women chanted slogans such as "we care" and "where are the children" in a largely peaceful standoff with police, who ordered them to leave.

Democratic lawmaker Pramila Jayapal said she was among those arrested "who took over the center of the Hart Senate Building protesting the inhumane and cruel zero-tolerance policy of Donald Trump and this administration". "Shame! Shame!" at the Trump International Hotel.

"I met with all 174 of the women that were there, and it was absolutely heartbreaking to hear their stories, to hear about how their children had been taken away". They were charged with unlawful demonstration.

"I sought it out", Elly Brinkley, who arrived from NY earlier this week, said Thursday. Overflow space will be cordoned off along 16th Street NW and in Farragut Square, where organizers will set up large screens. "That, to me, feels really, really significant".
