Kim summit and G7 anger

Members of the media stand behind potted plants as they wait outside St Regis Hotel in Singapore

When Trump and Kim meet at 9am local time on Tuesday at Sentosa, a resort island off Singapore's port, they will be making history.

Sporadic provocations by the North have continued while Pyongyang has made increasing advances in its nuclear arsenal, which it says it needs to defend against the risk of a United States invasion.

USA and North Korean negotiators met in a Singapore hotel on Monday, seeking to clarify the shape of Tuesday's summit, where Trump has said he intends to guided by instinct.

Kim Jong Un, right, arrives in Singapore for North Korea's summit with U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday, June 10, 2018.

It is an extraordinary turnaround from the tensions of a year ago, when Kim accelerated his weapons programmes - earning the North more sets of UN Security Council sanctions - and the two men traded personal insults and threats of war.

During the media interview, Mr Lee said that Singapore had committed a lot of resources to the summit's logistics and security because of the profile of the meeting and the nature of what is being discussed.

USA allies are anxious that Trump could upend decades of worldwide precedent, NPR's Mara Liasson reported on Weekend Edition Sunday. After shaking hands with the Singapore foreign minister, Kim sped through the streets in a limousine, two large North Korean flags fluttering on the hood, surrounded by other black vehicles with tinted windows and bound for the luxurious and closely guarded St. Regis Hotel.

"I'm glad to say that as of now, it's all systems go".

When he previously appeared at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in South Korea with the same Donald Trump lookalike, he was escorted out by security after waving and dancing in front of North Korea's cheerleaders.

Lawmakers and policymakers are closely watching this week's historic summit in Singapore between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

In May, Trump announced he would meet Kim in Singapore on June 12 in a tweet that said "We will both try to make it a very special moment for World Peace!"

Trump, who is staying in a separate hotel, the Shangri-La, is due to meet Lee today.

Trump hopes the landmark talks will kick-start a process that eventually see Kim give up his nuclear weapons in an irreversible manner that can be verified internationally.

President Trump has said he will use the summit, scheduled to begin Tuesday, to push for North Korea's denuclearization.

PM Lee will have a bilateral meeting with Mr Kim, who is Chairman of North Korea's State Affairs Commission, on Sunday.

With few sources of information other than the state-run media, gossip and word of mouth, North Koreans had been left largely in the dark about the momentous - and potentially life-changing - events about to take place outside of their isolated nation. North Korea saw that as a threat - Libya's leader Muammar Gaddafi was ultimately overthrown and killed after doing a deal with the U.S.

Graham said he will embrace the letter and any effort to reach a good deal will need the support of lawmakers from both sides of the aisle, adding that he's willing to sign a peace treaty to end the Korean War and guarantee the security of Kim's regime.
