New 'Time' Cover Highlights the Cruelty of Trump's Immigration Policy

The original image

On Friday, November 25 2017 Trump proclaimed that he would probably be Time's "Person of the Year" except that he didn't really want the honor. Illustrators placed an image of President Donald Trump right beside her. President Trump appears to look down as the child wails. Moore, who as a photojournalist has been covering the U.S. -Mexico border for a decade, said he did not see the pair separated but that policy at the time would indicate their separation.

That statement was denied by Alan Murray Chief Content Officer, from Time Inc.

An upcoming Time magazine cover will be mash-up sure to spur passions in the nation's ongoing immigration debate. Actually, there was no issue at all in 2009 that had Trump on the cover.

The cover is gut wrenching, but only because it's so real.

Trump's relationship with the media - which he refers to as the "fake news media" - has been rocky since he took oath in early 2017. This isn't the first time Trump has featured on the cover of TIME.

First Lady Melania Trump 'hates' to see families separated
Bob Goodlatte, said he had spoken to Trump on Saturday and that the president "is fully committed to both of these bills". Melania Trump also spoke out about the thousands of migrant children separated from their parents.

Time magazine has always known to come up with unique covers of raging issues and this time it's no different.

Several Republican legislators joined with Democrats in decrying the policy and imploring Trump to step in.

The new cover combines a photo of the president with the now-iconic image taken by Getty Images' John Moore of a little girl sobbing while her mother is searched by border agents, something of a symbol of the pushback against the separation of children from their families at the U.S. -Mexico border. "All I wanted to do was pick her up, but I couldn't". And so on one hand, I always prefer a photograph to be used with its normal integrity.

"As a father myself, it was very hard for me to see these families detained, knowing that they would soon be split up", Moore told Getty's blog Foto. "As the border patrol took peoples' names down, I could see a mother holding a young child", Moore said on Weekend Edition Sunday to Lulu Garcia-Navarro.

The magazine said on Twitter that there has been "a reckoning" after the border separation policy, and asks "what kind of country are we?"
