Russian Foreign Ministry comments on US exit from US Human Rights Council

China Says It Regrets US Quitting UN Human Rights Council

"While we agree with the USA on the need for reform, our support for this Human Rights Council remains steadfast, and we will continue to advance the cause of reform from within its ranks", Britain's ambassador Julian Braithwaite said.

The Human Rights Council meets three times a year to examine human rights violations worldwide.

The U.N. Human Rights Council is a good example of how these dynamics play out amid the realities of the post-Cold War global liberal order. The US had been threatened to withdraw from the council for years, long before this failed reform effort, and the bid to "reform" the council by preventing them from criticizing Israel was clearly never going to go anywhere.

"This is part of a wider trend on the part of the United States that goes well beyond the Human Rights Council and UN bodies and which across the board raises the question, 'Where do you get the most impact - from the inside working with other like-minded nations, or from the outside acting alone?' " says one official who requested anonymity to speak candidly on the issue.

Rep. Eliot Engel, the House Foreign Affairs top Democrat released a statement on Tuesday that showcases widespread condemnation of the organization throughout the American Senate. But Haley cited longstanding USA complaints that the 47-member council is biased against Israel.

The human rights arm of the United Nations was established in 2006.

But there are credible arguments and debates over how the United States, for now the world's most powerful nation, should protect human rights.

"The UNHRC has perverted its stated mandate by serially abusing Israel, while horrific human rights abuses around the world receive scant attention, if at all", Hier and Cooper went on to say.

"This decision is counterproductive to American national security and foreign policy interests and will make it more hard to advance human rights priorities and aid victims of abuse around the world", the organizations said in a joint statement. The Trump administration has demonstrated since its start a failure to do either.

However he apologized to Meghan and Harry, who he said were "very forgiving". "There was no real commitment to it". While he "absolutely wanted to walk [his] daughter down the aisle", Thomas was recovering from heart surgery.

Diplomats have said the USA withdrawal could bolster Cuba, Russia, Egypt and Pakistan, which resist what they see as United Nations interference in sovereign issues.

Its decision "risks undermining the role of the U.S.as a strong advocate and supporter of democracy on the world stage", she added.

America is leaving the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), "an organization that is not worthy of its name", UN Ambassador Nikki Haley declared on Tuesday.

"While we do not seek to impose the American system on anyone else, we do support the rights of all people to have freedoms bestowed on them by their creator".

Republican Jewish Coalition National Chairman Norm Coleman said, "We applaud the Trump administration, and specifically Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, for withdrawing the United States from the UNHRC". And the move is also unprecedented, because the U.S.is the first country to leave the council without being forced out.

The United States is half-way through a three-year term on the 47-member Geneva-based body and the Trump administration had long threatened to quit if it was not overhauled.

Clark says the United States, a proponent of reform, can't achieve it from the outside looking in.

He noted he voted against creating the council when he served as U.N. Ambassador during the George W. Bush administration. The U.S. joined the body only in 2009 under President Barack Obama.
