Absurd day of men's tennis has repercussions for the women at Wimbledon

Friday's semifinals match between Kevin Anderson and John Isner on the men's singles side of Wimbledon was an an incredible, epic and frustrating back-and-forth affair. It was a marathon game. The match lasted more than six hours, making it the longest semi-final match in the history of Wimbledon, and the second-longest in total.

Wimbledon fans witnessed history as the longest semi-final ever at the Championships unfolded on Centre Court.

John Isner and Kevin Anderson possess two of the most powerful serves in tennis, and simply could not find a break in their Wimbledon semifinal.

American John Isner and South African Kevin Anderson battled it out on court for six hours 35 minutes, before Anderson secured a place in the men's singles final. It goes past the 2013 semifinal encounter between Djokovic and Juan Martin Del Potro which ended in the Serbian's favour 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-7 (6), 6-3 after 4 hours and 44 minutes.

He also went five sets to beat eight-time champion Roger Federer in the quarter-finals, winning the decider 13-11.

At a set apiece after an hour and 36 minutes of edgy tennis that fluctuated between excellent and flawed, they had just over an hour left until the 11pm curfew, yet neither could seal the deal in the second semi-final before the lights were dimmed under the roof on Centre shortly before that deadline, although they did their best.

Trump greeted with protests during first United Kingdom visit
The trio will be having tea at Windsor Castle, a meeting that Buckingham Palace described in a press release as a "working visit". But the red carpet treatment is likely to be overshadowed by massive protests planned by Britons opposed to Trump's presence.

He couldn´t capitalise, however, and was broken straight back before Isner claimed the ensuing tiebreak having saved two set points.

Despite the fifth set's historic length, both players did have chances to break each other's serve.

And they were somewhat right, with numerous aces from both athletes, but at 10-10 in the final set tiebreaker, American giant Isner had the advantage, and what he did next was a thing of beauty. He got back to his feet and played a left-handed forehand which landed in before going on to win a crucial point.

Anderson finished with 49 aces and 118 winners; Isner had 53 aces and 129 winners.

Instead, the two players - and a disappointed audience - were sent home after the third set on Friday with Djokovic leading 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9) following a tense tiebreaker that had more entertaining rallies than some entire matches. For us to be out there for that amount of time, I really hope we can address this.

Soon, they were meeting for an embrace, with Anderson being the first South African man in 97 years to reach the Wimbledon final.

Both players held serve all the way through the third set and into the tiebreaker, which saw Nadal fail to convert three separate set-point opportunities, including one on his own serve. He has reached a career-high in the rankings and on Wednesday he defeated Canadian Milos Raonic in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, advancing the furthest he ever has in a Grand Slam tournament.
