British ex-foreign minister to be probed for burqa comments

Boris Johnson Conservative burka

Following the article's publication, Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May agreed with critics that Johnson should apologize for his comments.

Boris who said women in burkas looked like "letterboxes" and "bank robbers" has refused to apologise and has said it is an attack on his Free Speech.

Speaking on his LBC show, he said: "I think the portrayal of Islam as a threat, the portrayal of Islam as a murderous cult is not being done by Muslims".

The former foreign secretary will be investigated over whether he has broken the party's code of conduct for comments that were widely criticised by figures, including from his own party, as Islamophobic.

An independent panel will be convened to review the complaints.

Johnson, who resigned in July over the government's Brexit plans, also said the robe was oppressive, prompting accusations of Islamophobia from other politicians and British Muslim groups.

Several European countries, including France, Belgium and Denmark, have banned face-covering veils in public, but none of Britain's main political parties supports such a restriction.

"If you say that it is weird and bullying to expect women to cover their faces, then I totally agree", Johnson said.

The mayor had no immediate comment on Giuliani's attacks. "This generation of kids has grown up with no one daring to touch them". The witness was very specific about the shooter walking away . "Somebody knows who did it", said Johnson, his voice rising.

The Tories have been accused of being majorly out of touch with the British people.

"I welcome this investigation into Boris but let's not pretend this is an isolated incident. Because every day, we get stronger and they get weaker". He has not said sorry.

Sources close to Johnson said earlier this week that calls for him to apologise for the comments were "ridiculous".

"We must not fall into the trap of shutting down the debate on hard issues", a source close to Johnson told reporters.

Johnson is known for his bombast, elocution, gaffes and provocative stunts, but even a few fellow Tories said he had gone too far this time.

According to the BBC, Johnson's supporters defended his remarks, saying that he was simply sticking up for "liberal values".

She said: "I also know that many other people believe strongly that in the whole of the article, what Mr Johnson appears to have been attempting to do was to say that there shouldn't be a ban and that he was engaging in a legitimate debate".
